SACRAMENTO, CA — Californians Against Wasteful Spending and Higher Taxes today
announced that more than 200 organizations and elected officials have officially joined the
coalition, marking a major milestone in the growing pushback against new tax proposals being
considered in Sacramento.

“More than 200 organizations and elected officials from every corner of the state have now
joined this fight, and our momentum is only growing,” said Rob Lapsley, president of the
California Business Roundtable and co-chair of Californians Against Wasteful Spending and
Higher Taxes. “Californians from all walks of life are sending Sacramento a clear message: fix
the wasteful spending before coming back for more of our hard-earned money.”

The coalition’s rapid growth reflects voters’ mounting frustration with Sacramento’s wasteful
spending and the renewed push for tax increases, including proposals to extend the sales tax to
everyday services, raise state income taxes, and impose a sweeping new Wealth Tax that can
be expanded by the Legislature to tax the middle class and their assets like home equity and
retirement accounts.

“In California, everything is getting more expensive, and families are already feeling stretched,”
said Faith Bautista, President and CEO, National Diversity Coalition. “Proposals that raise taxes
will drive up costs even more and will ultimately be felt at the kitchen table. Families need relief
from rising expenses, not additional financial pressure from higher taxes.”

The coalition is a diverse, nonpartisan alliance of business groups, taxpayer advocates, local
elected officials, small businesses, and community organizations united behind a single
message: Sacramento must fix its spending problem before asking taxpayers for a bailout.

About Californians Against Wasteful Spending and Higher Taxes
Californians Against Wasteful Spending is a diverse, non-partisan coalition of Californians who
agree that Sacramento must fix its out-of-control spending before raising taxes again. In the last
five years, Sacramento blew through a $100 billion surplus on a reckless spending spree with
billions of taxpayer dollars lost to waste. New state taxes won’t solve the problem — they’ll
make it worse by driving away jobs, revenue, and opportunity, ultimately hitting all taxpayers
and businesses.
